Recognizing the needs of our local community, the Anglican Parish of Haliburton has prioritized ministries that are practical and faithful ways to care for our neighbours. Below are some of the ministries undertaken.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Prayer shawls are knitted or crocheted in a prayerful and compassionate spirit. They are blessed by the priest and carefully chosen for the recipient. About 150 shawls are given out each year to people in our community, as well as across Canada and even around the world. This ministry has inspired several other churches to start their own prayer shawl ministry.

It is our hope that the prayer shawl will comfort the recipient and remind them that they are surrounded and upheld by the love and care of God and the church community.

Creative Devotion

Begins 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sept. 29 in the St George’s Fader Room: all welcome to join us for a time of devotion, prayer, a craft and refreshments. We will meet again on the last Monday in October and November. Please invite a friend and join us for love and laughter.

Saint Nick’s Satchels

The Haliburton Youth Hub works with young people aged 12-25 years, a group sometimes overlooked at Christmas time. Each Christmas season the parish supports the Youth Hub by providing Christmas satchels for 50 young people; each contains gift cards for food, sundries and gifts, as well as financial support for the Youth Hub transportation fund.
The ‘St. Nick’s satchels’ are named for St. Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra, whose legendary gift-giving gave rise to our current Santa Claus.

Laundry Ministry

When one is poor, perhaps homeless, it can be challenging to do basic personal tasks, such as laundry. One might not have the equipment, the supplies, or the funds for the laundromat. For the past six years, the church has regularly provided dryer balls and committed to giving a significant monthly contribution to the Haliburton 4Cs Food bank and Lily Ann (Christian Community Concern Centre), so that the 4C’s can provide laundry supplies and related items to families and individuals in our local community who are in need.
